I would not do it in a laminate top, they are really intended for solid surface tops, the problem is once you cut through the thin laminate there is a high risk of water getting into the chipboard core, even if sealed with silicon.
I think you can buy dummy ones that are half round or metal studs that are stuck to the laminate, B&Q do them.
