How to make a box from decking wood?

(Complete newbie question - not really done woodworking - but can operate a drill and have once used a jigsaw drill!)
I need some advice how to make a box from decking wood or just wooden planks.

PROBLEM: make flat surfaces by lining up.

How is this done?
ANSWER: glue + a strong clamp??
Just guessing.

If so... what kind of clamp?
What kind of glue?

Any advice on how to do the corners?
I have a box at home. Cant remember where I bought from.
They dont both with angles - the sides are just kept in place with screws.

And... hinges... what options?

Do I need any special drill bits?

Just looking for advice.

What size?

If making a planter type box then a baton inside gives more meat to screw to. Add waterproof glue if you wanted. Mitred corners would be nice but hard without a chop saw. If used as a planter then a membrane inside stops rot

i was thinking of less than 1m accross, 40 cm width and depth.

i wanted to make a presentable box. i want to start by making a few for the house.
i like the decking grooves - but otherwise, any plan type wood would do - just prefer to have chunky

Jog on over to YouTube, put 'Making a planter from decking' in the search bar and take your pick.

Any number of easy to follow tutorials which should get you what you want.

Are you talking about actually joining the boards together along their edges to make the sides? If so, yes its done with glue and clamps, but theres a bit more to it than that if you want them to come out flat (you do). Your best bet would be to make a glued and screwed frame out of batons as Tigercubrider suggested and then just screw the cladding boards on.

I agree a tutorial would be best to follow and should be easy to find.

yes... that was the idea originally
but... now that i've seen a few videos suggested... i dont think i need
they have a pillar in the corner - that's cheating - but i like it!! LOL
