How to remove Locking Nut.

Following Xmas the OH has had a multi-gym....

It has locking (nylon) nuts and bolts and I've made a mistake and need to remove two of the nuts.... needless to say they wont undo (hence locking nuts)

Question is how do I get them off?

I can't get anything under them as they are tight, I can't cut what they are attached to and I need the bolt they are on as it's a "special" one for the multi gym?

Is it just a case of Brute Force? or some careful sawing with a dremel or hacksaw? (If I managed to get a new one! )

If you can get some heat on them you can melt the nylon part out and they will no longer be locking nuts, although this depends on whether there is the chance of melting anything in the area as well.

Having experienced these many times on cars over the years I am a bit confused as to why you cant remove them - they are a bit tougher to get off than normal nuts but should still come off with a spanner/socket. The nylon doesn't forever lock the nut to the bolt, the main purpose is to stop it loosening under vibration and movement of the frame.

Maybe a daft question, but how did you manage to tighten the nut on, if you (presumably) can't stop the bolt from rotating?
I'd grind one of the faces away with an angle grinder, personally.

These bad boys still undo with a normal spanner. Or if it's not one of these, what is it?
