Hi all,
I'm refitting our bathroom. Hoping someone can suggest a solution to this wiring issue I've found.
Apon removing the old vanity unit, I was surprised to find a junction box screwed to the wall directly behind it, a few inches from the sink pipework. Looks to me like it was once used for a shaver socket but that was was subsequently removed at some point.
Anyway, the alarming thing is that it's the kind of junction box that I'd usually expect to find in a lighting circuit above a ceiling, rather than underneath the sink - seems like any leak down the back of the sink top would drip straight into this and onto live conductor.
Can anyone suggest the best way to sort this. Another vanity will be going back in the same place (without a back panel), I'm also going to move the pipework around.
I am thinking either of a Zone 2 rated junction box (would that suffice, if such a thing exists?) or maybe chopping a double backbox into the wall and putting a shaver socket there. Would that be acceptable, it would remain accessible, but at the back of the vanity cupboard. If there was an acceptable method of permanently adjoining the wires to bury in the wall then I'd do that but im not aware of a method for this...
Keen to avoid replacing the whole lengths of cable if possible since that will involve very unwelcome works above/below.
Really grateful in advance
