I did my hall, roughly 2x2 plus 2x1. I did it years ago with an edge sander, it took all weekend - a very noisy , dirty, and dusty weekend. I did an ok job but ended up with a bit of dishing.
NEVER AGAIN!
hire a proper floor sander and edge sander.
you need the extraction kit as well
a few years later I paid a guy to do the living room, dinning room and hall. He was brilliant. Superb extraction and a lovely job.
doing a small area with a handheld sees a good idea but it isn’t.
You still need a couple of small sanders to finish the edges and corners (say a small belt sander and a Delta sander), but as Tigercubrider says, hire a floor sander - make sure they show you how to use it, though
And make sure the handle of the hired flood sander is tight or will come out. Sander will fly across floor and either hit skirting and dig in or wrap the cable around barrel or both.
