Hi - we have just removed an old 1950's electric fireplace from the chimney breast in our bedroom. On peeling back some of the old wall paper behind it I noticed a white polyfila like substance stuck to the back of the wall paper. It is only a very thin layer, and sticks the wall paper to a metal plate which has been used to block the original hole in the wall where the old fireplace used to be. Should I be concerned that this might contain asbestos?? I have no idea how to spot asbestos but am told that it was a popular building material during the 40's and 50's used for its insulating properties (among other things). What should I do? Any advice appreciated.
