How to stop sash windows rattling?

The hotel I work in is an old building with sash windows and we're getting a lot of complaints of late because of the sash windows rattling when it's windy.

Is there any advice anyone can offer on how to stop this without the use of window wedges?

We have a joinery contractor who I've asked to have a look at them, but he generally just grunts at me and occasionally offers some kind of smart comment that never answers my question and frankly his work is shoddy anyway, but he's a relative of a close freind and my boss likes him for some reason so I'm kind of stuck with the guy and a bunch of rattling windows that won't get fixed.

Any suggestions?

Sash window locks that tighten the two sashes together ie

And draught seal foam strip inside where the sashes run.

They need refurbishing, locks won't stop rattling and does not allow the windows open in summer. Expensive if you have lots of them.

Yeah, fortunately there's not too many of them so if they need refurbishing, it's not the end of the world.

They don't have a draught strip around them and they have the lever catches on them rather than screw locks.

Can anyone recommend a company around the North East that would be able to refurb the windows?

new parting bead may help if worn

if you have say a 3mm gap then a 2mm blob clear silicon in 4 places may give temporary [a few weeks ] rattle free use but only a temporary fix
wood glue will also work but more visible and can also cause problems if over done
