How to trace water pipes in the wall?

Hi,
We would like to install a coat hanger on our entrance wall. But there is a bathroom on the other side and the shower valve is sitting on that wall.
Is there a way to trace the water pipes and to be sure of where to drill safely?

Is the dividing wall a brick or block wall or a timber frame partition?
Is the valve on the wall or in the wall?
Is it an elec unit or a more conventional shower?

Typically, its simple and safe to use plugs and screws to fix your coat hanger.

Drill, plug and screw into the wall - you should have no problems
