6 months ago, we had a leak from the ceiling of the above flat

At the time, there was water dripping

It's largely dry now
Some bits of the ceiling need re-plastering

I wanted to know what 'treatment' I need to give before plastering and painting?

I know there's something - but just not 100% sure what this is

Thanks

The flat above "leaked" water into your ceiling, and its still slightly wet?

Did the neighbour's have a plumbing leak or some kind of spillage?

Has the "leak"/water now definitely stopped?

it's completely dry now
i had to get the management company to send in their builders to fix
it was a leak from a tap or something
there was mould build up - this has been cleaned off

so... what should i do? i'm not sure of what specifically to search for in regarding the treatment

thanks

Leave it for a week or so. Let it dry out.

Typically, you would use some kind of stain blocker (local DIY shop will carry one) or even overpaint with oil paint to cover a water stain.

But you say the ceiling is damaged - post a pic and i could advise you better.

Is the ceiling plaster board or plaster lath?

You should be more curious about the source of leaks above your head?

@ree thanks for the reply
it's all dry
i've looked up stain block + asked in a local diy shop. ok... so i now understand *why* its needed.

it's not to treat anything other than stopping the stain re-appearing through the new coat of paint. is that correct?

as for images, see the following:

let me know what u think

The stain block does just that, emulsion on a stain will show thru even after 30 coats of paint, you will need to rub down the ceiling to get rid of loose material and reline where you have ceiling wallpaper.

If the damage was caused by a leak from a neighbours then why do you have to repair your own ceiling, aren't they insured?
