I’m currently trying to uncover my original pathway might is the one covered with paving slabs to the right, but underneath to the left is the black and red pathway. Currently there appears to be some hard/soft core under the paving slabs. Just wondering what the best way to do em this is without damaging the tiles themselves underneath/any other advice people might have.

Thanks in advance.

Scrape and brush carefully, then clean carefully with a ph neutral cleaner.

You could try some brick acid, it should soften/dissolve the mortar and hopefully won't damage the clay tiles.

Definitely test on one tile first, rinse and leave to dry before going further.

They're probably damaged and broken though, like next-door's, which would be why someone covered them.

It may make more sense to buy reproduction ones, dig the whole lot up and make a nice neat version of what was there.
