Not sure if I am using the best fitting boards but I'm hoping someone might advise how would I get a good match between old and new. Floor boards where taken up here and there by a number of tradesman and damaged. Obviously looking to make good myself.
Actual measurements of existing floorboards are 140mm by 23mm (approx)
The actual measurements of the closest boards I could find are 136mm by 21mm (150mm x 25mm from Jewsons).
While the difference might seem small it is not ideal. I can gap the new boards slightly to make up for the width but I'm assuming that this is a common problem. If so, what would you advise I do to address the difference in thickness. I was only planning on putting thin carpet down and in time I would expect the 2-3mm difference to become apparent. I was thinking of getting some 2mm glazing shims from somewhere and fixing them to the floor joists?
Could anyone advise please on how a professional would do this?
Many thanks
