Hi,

I'm about to embark on sanding and re-varnishing an old herringbone parquet floor. I think I'm OK with the sanding part, however I've been told when re-varnishing that my brush-strokes need to go with the grain on each individual wood block - which will take ages to cover a whole floor. Is this true? Or is someone pulling my leg?!

Thanks

Hello there.

That will indeed take ages! Not the best of advice you've got there and impossible to do too.
You need to end the sanding with grit 150 if you want to varnish (120 when you oil), use a suitable quality brush and quality varnish = half the work done.
(Oh, and read the instructions on the tin, great help ;))
