Hi all , i am planning to replace a wired in smoke alarm. it isn't interlinked. the alarm we bought has 3 cables - brown for live, blue for neutral, white for interlink and a space for the earth wire. I have two questions -
- As it is not going to be interlinked with any other wired in smoke alarms, do i disconnect the interlink cable or just leave it where it is?
- When unwiring the old alarm and then wiring in the new one, is there a sequence to obey, such as live cable off first, or last? Many thanks

Just leave the interlink off. Before swapping it over turn off the power to the smoke at the board otherwise your playing with 240v. The orders irrelevant.

Mix and match not always the end of the world. A lot say not interoperable and they end up interoparting fine.

Yup good example Deta say don’t mix and match even within brand. Mix and match fine when I’ve done it and all trigger and remain interoperable with other heat and smokes.

So you've conducted extensive tested and can publish verified results?

Nope, have you to validate its as advertised, an absolute no no?

Would you install fire safety devices not following the MIs ? I certainly wouldn’t and if you are doing it “to save money” I think you are daft

Seeing as he said there wasn’t any other detectors interlinked ….what was all the fuss ?
