I have been given a nearly new room stat. My vented system with mid position valve doesn't have a room stat at present. The pic below shows 1-2-3-4 wires.

Firstly, which are the switching wires, is it 2 and 4?

Once I have identified the switched wires, where do I wire them into?

Presumably, one of the switching wires plus the earth and neutral need to be wired to a mains supply in the wiring centre?

one in the picture is wired incorrectly, but will work as live and switched lives are transposed, so long as the stat doesn't need a live to switch. (may be wrong at wiring centre as well)
grey wire should be N
brown wire should be L (but is switch live in picture)
black should be Switch live (but is L in picture)
earth is earth
all 4 should go back to wiring centre

Thanks Kevin. The stat isn't wired in. When it was removed, the cable was cut a few inches from the stat.

Do you mean that the terminals 1 (left) to 5 (Right) should be wired as;

1 EARTH/YELLOW

2 N/BLACK

3 BROWN/LIVE

4

5 GREY/SWITCH LIVE

If this is right, then terminals 3 and 5 are what breaks the circuit when the stat cuts out? Where do I wire these two into my system to put a break in a circuit?

If you're using a 3port mid position valve on a 'Y' system, then a wire will come from the programmers CH ON terminal to feed the room stat.(it may of course go via a terminal box).
The 'switched live' leaving the room stat will go to the 'white' wire of the 3 port valve. (again it may go via the terminal box)

It is when power is supplied by the room stat to the valves white wire that drives the valves motor up to the mid position.
At this point there are options depending on what has been selected and what has been satisfied.
If for example CH only, this would mean a different source of power would feed the valves 'grey' wire. At mid position a micro switch is triggered so the 'grey' would take over from the 'white' and the valve would then continue forwards to the CH only position.
Of course if the 'grey' was not live,( because HW has also been selected) then the valve would stay at mid position until the demand changes.

yes that is correct

the sequence of switches etc

C/H
timerCH on -Room Stat Common (3)
Room Stat calling (5) - CH zone valve brown or diverter valve white

there is a PDF DOWNLOADS link whicj I would expect to have them. But I have found emailing the support desks they are usually very good

Your expectations are misplaced. ;)

For some strange reason there is no pdf available anywhere about these stats. Maybe they intend withdrawing the stat from the market and want everyone to buy digital.

I've got one of these stats (I like things simple) and I can scan the MI sheet if you want it

it has diff diags for the T4360B, the T6360B (with indicator lamp) and the T4360E setback heater one

Is it possible that incorrect wiring (as in pics above for example) could cause boiler lock out / ignition failures. I've only had the stat about 3 months which is when when all my problems started. Electrician fitted it (not plumber).

The one in the picture is wired correctly.

1 live
2 neutral
3 switched live

From right to left the terminals are
1 live in
4 empty (used on certain motorised valves to close them)
3 live out
2 neutral
earth

First rule is on roomstats is never go by colours, majority are wrong or not labelled . Raise your concern re room stat with guy that comes it will take 5 mins to check which is live in/out etc
