...mount TV above fire?

Mrs Secure has tasked me with putting TV above fire. Detached 1960 house with external breast.

There will be a new sub 7kW gas fire below so there will be no need for an air brick.

She'd like a space left above the mantle shelf for ornaments and cards. I'd be happier not drilling and chasing into the cinder block, I don't want to compromise the flue in any way. We're having it swept, BTW.

I'd like some timber feature mounted above the mantle but I don't know how to finish it below the coving and above the mantle so it doesn't look awkward. This would make it easier to hide cables and mount boxes in.

Edit: Some website I went to reckons if the nearest part of the wall to the fire does not exceed 38 degrees, it's OK to put a TV there?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Drop the moulding off.
Stud and board the chimney breast.(hide all of the wires and gubbins before boarding).
Refit the moulding.

?

Thanks.

By moulding you mean the coving?

So what do I do if Mrs Secure wants a gap above the mantle?

Stop it short and box it in?

Hmmmmm. I've been told if the temperature above the mantle piece is no greater than 38 degrees, it's OK, but I'm not happy with the position.

I think it's too high for starters...

Can you get down from above and drill behind the the coving ? Like you sparks seem to make look easy. Chase the Wall out a bit and patch it up ?

Is it very old fashioned these days to have the TV in the corner of the room?

I meant the fireplace thingy.

But yes, the coving would have to be redone.
But if we remove the fire surround (which isn't an issue, because we are replacing it), we'd have to stud and board the breast all the way down, wouldn't we? Wouldn't that make life difficult with the installation of the gas fire?

Mines above fireplace height it's fine when you are sitting back in the chair, not high at all.
