Hey,

Does anyone know if you can buy the carcasses on their own, without any doors and hinges? I want some open units in non-important parts of the house.

If so does it make much of a difference to the price?

They're not open again until Friday I think... just being impatient!

Have you considered getting some pre-edged MFC and making your own? They are hardly rocket science - for 18mm thick stuff a 600mm wide unit comprise: base 570mm deep x 564mm wide (ex-600mm stuff), sides (2 no) 720mm high x 570mm deep (ex-600mm stuff), front/rear bracings (2 no) 120mm +/- deep x 564mm wide, back 564mm wide x 600 ~ 702mm high. Screw together with black carcass screws. Takes me about 20 or so minutes to make-up one carcass after I've cut the stuff to size. add an extra 15 minutes if you need to edge-band the stuff with the iron

Note: back is fixed in place using 1 x 1in softwood batten (2 x 1 will do, though). Feet screwed to underside or plinth box made-up to support cabinets above

Most suppliers sell carcase only, the doors being a choice of finishes.

Yes and for something more bespoke I would do, no hesitation. But the discount I can get at Howdens (70% on base and wall units) makes it not really worthwhile, when taking into account the shelf pin holes (I need adjustable shelving), assembly time (granted, short), and probably trimming down the pre-edged stuff.
