Generally speaking, most monitors will work fine with most pc’s. Good pc’s these days tend to have DVI (digital) interfaces as well as VGA. (You can get a connector to use a VGA monitor on DVI output if needed). I would recommend that before anybody purchases a new monitor, they make sure it is supported by the current graphics card installed in the pc. I have had many cases where a user upgrades their monitor (usually to a large wide screen) and then have to upgrade the graphics adapter as well (resolution issues).
