I have a gas hob which make a low level hum. Does anyone know if this is ok? Its a Siemens, the noise appears to be constant. I'm not sure if it has always been there or if it started at any time since the original installation.
Thanks in advance for any direction.

Cheers

Does it go away when you remove electrical power, which presumably it uses for ignition and a timer? If so, it's probably just hum from the transformer.

But should the transformer have power to it constantly?

Sure, if there's a timer/clock. If the hob is getting on a bit, it's probably nothing to worry about. If it's fairly new then I would be looking at having it repaired under guarantee.

The hob does have a timer function to shut down individual hobs after a timed interval. (not sure if this is what you meant. The hob is about three years old and functions perfectly. I was more concerned about safety than anything else. thanks again for your responses.

Just trying to establish whether or not there's anything there that would require a small amount of power all the time, hence there being the transformer constantly running. Again, it doesn't sound like there's much to be concerned about, but you're the only one who's heard the noise. If you're losing sleep over it then have an appliance engineer check it over.
