Humming/whining occasionally from hot water tap

Hi,

Occasionally there is a high pitched hum/whine from the basin hot tap that gradually increases in pitch before stopping.

This only happens intermittently and only started at the weekend. Any suggestion as to where I might start to look for the cause?

Check / replace float valve in the water cistern

Thanks for the response.

The float valve in the cold water tank is less than 3 months old. How would this affect the hot water tap which is fed from a cylinder in the airing cupboard?
