HW Problem

Hi,

Just wondered if I can get any Ideas from you,

I have a problem with my HW, I woke up early yesterday morning with a horrible humming sound and the sound of rushing water in my pipes. So I checked my HW Tank cupboard. After a few hours working things out this is what happens.

I switch my HW on at wall, the over-ride switch on the motorised valve moves to the open position which turns on the pump running fine. The problem is when I want to switch off. When I switch off at the wall, the over-ride switch moves to the off position and then you hear a rush of water and a humming noise. If I move the over-ride switch manually in the cupboard the HW switches on and the noise goes away but obviously the heating is still on.

To swith my HW off I need to hit the switch on and off at the wall until you hear the humming noise stop and pump stopping.

My system is an Ideal elan 2 boiler with one room thermostat for the house with 2 of these valves one for HW and Heating. The heating works perfect.

check you have water in system as it sounds like air lock of some sort

check the ballvalve in the feed & expansion tank
