Since being diagnosed with diplopia, I have had a CT scan, which has uncovered hydrocephalus.

My scan was carried out at a hospital without a neurology dept, so I have been referred to another with.

I don't have my appt. till mid May, and am having difficulty getting in touch with my consultant.

Trouble is, I fly on 26 May to Crete.

Is it safe to fly pre or post-op?

There will probably be conflicting opinions on this, and really your consultant should be the person answering - as he will be aware of the cause of the hydrocephalus, amount of pressure it is causing, etc.

Many people say it is safe to fly - as aircraft should be de-pressurised - hence, not causing any fluctuations on the pressure in the brain.

One important thing is to make sure that your travel insurance know of your condition.

My advice would be to keep trying to get hold of your consultant, or ask the receptionist to put you in touch with someone else who can give you the required information based on your circumstances, if he is unavailable - reiterating the 'urgency' of your situation. Also, get their answer in writing, so you can show to your insurance company if necessary.

Good luck, and sorry that I could give you a direct 'yes' or 'no' answer  - but I think in all honesty, no one on this forum will be able to do this, without knowing the full medical details

If so, then why do your ears pop on take off and landing ? Answer; because the cabins are pressurised to approximately only 70% of norm at sea level.
