So, I have hydroscopic salt penetration in the following locations:
1) Top of chimney breast - a 30cm section running from the top of the coving downwards.
2) Corner of the lounge above the coving in isolated area.
3) Kitchen - above a side window.
I just want to look into my options. Of course one option is to completely strip back the wall and re-plaster. Which sort of plaster should be used and should there be a membrane?
Possible second option, are there any salt neutralisers that I could treat the affected area with and then repaint over once dry?
The house was built in 1908, solid walls. No external leaks or blocked guttering. Chimney is vented.
Thanks for your help!
