I have today visited an installation where work is on-going after a flood.

The numptys who have replaced a two way switch got the strapper & switchwire mixed up, resulting in the light not working.

Also, a live switched spur was left hanging off the wall.

This in a house occupied by a frail 90 yo lady.

I have marked down the installation as having no cpc in the lighting (despite an NIC reg'd firm having replaced the board without noting that fact OR removing all metallic fittings and switches).

Also, (lazy b*ggers) they have bonded the water pipe in the garage, miles from the 'cock & strapped the cable to the gas and water pipes with tie-wraps.

I can't find the reg that says (something like) a cable should be fixed independently. And what about proximity to other services?

I'll add a piccy later.

528.3.3

Where an electrical service is to be installed in close proximity to one or more non-electrical services it shall be arranged that any forseeable operation carried out uopn the other services will not cause damage to the electrical service or converse.

Note,
This may be acheived by:
i)suitable spacing between the services.
ii) the use of mechanical or thermal sheilding.

:)

can't help with the 17th edition, not got it yet.. but in the 16th it was section 528 dealing with proximity of other services..

your post is a little confusing.. you don't want the regs for the gas and water bonding do you?

Just to add to Click-Sure's post, you might also want to look at:

528.3.2
528.3.3
528.3.4

No, ta. Got those!

It's just memory plays tricks & I can't find the ones that would prohibit attaching the cable to the pipe.

I used to work on jobs with a really annoying surveyor who wanted reg numbers for pretty much everything, normally I know its wrong, and I'm telling you its wrong works well, but can, like quoting numbers come across a little arrogant!

I nearly bought him a copy of 7671, then he retired.

The phrase used round here to describe those type of installers would be "Gash B-stards"

Yeah. It just screams LAZY to me.

NIC as well... Should I go back to Sheff, I might post their details here...
