It occurred to me the other day that

a) I seldom watch live TV, despite having Freesat and a hundred and some channels
b) I seldom watch the few things I record (MoTD, mainly)

So, given that I have a Roku3 already, i have disconnected the freesat box, the dish, and the DVD player.....the living room feels somewhat naked right now but I am enjoying the sense of shedding gear I don't use.

Its quite liberating!

The only worry is that odd occasion I might wish to record something (once in a blue moon), so my question is, short of keeping the freesat box for its recording aility, is there a way of recording onto say, my Mac or some other device via the home network?

Put Satellite (DVB-S2) and terrestrial (DVB-T2) tuner cards in to your Mac and then have a look at software to record from those feeds.

Modern Macs don't have a "card" facility but you can buy an external USB box from ElGato called "EyeTV". It comes with excellent software for MacOSX.
