I`m just being nosey

Theres a chap further down on the next farm to ours who`s having a new farmhouse built. He`s had corrugated sheets fixed to all the roof trusses and even all the valleys have been cut out. Is he had this done because of a certain type of slate/stone that he`s having fitted to the roof or is it been done just to keep the rest of the work down below dry???
