Why has GD become so angry?

i think because too many decent posters - with an interest in discussing everyday things - have left, and there are too many .... (how to describe them without insulting them?????) err.... 'strange' people are on here, who only seem to want to 'run things down', or troll around or seem to have a political/racial agenda. And who. all too quickly, 'blow up' when challenged.
In the old days, there would be new threads going up every few minutes, and you'd come on here after a day off and have 2 pages of new threads to get through in GD alone! These days it can just come to a complete stop some evenings, where nothing gets posted for hours.
I remember times when, on popular threads, you could reply to someone only to find 7 or 8 ppeople had replied in between...

Seems to me that more and more members are trying to get up each others noses. I must admit, I like the banter even when it does get a little heated, but there are a few that for no good reason, other than to cause aggro post vial and disrespectful stuff.
Don't get me wrong, we are likely to all come from varied backgrounds and been brought up in different ways, whether it be political, religious, silverspoon, dragged up, single parents, no parents, same sex parents, animal parents, team ellegance etc... and so opinions will differ, which is good or nothing would be open for general discusion as we would all agree.
But opinions can be offered without the bitterness, surely.
Some people can't tell the difference between opinion and turgid dogma.

I find this forum quite strange in that I have seen many replies open with a short insult to someone. There are very ‘switch on’ people here and I have found much help and interest. But the Ad Hominem on the GD I saw just recently has made me despond quite honestly.
I have also gone off this site since the ‘thanks’ has become completely meaningless. If it isn’t representative of appreciation they may as well just kill it off and replace the icon with something else.
Like others have said, I’m not bothered about getting a thanks and chalking them up, but in principle it bothered me. Maybe it’s my strong sense of fairness and the lack of any explanation from the mods, (that I’m aware of). I lost about 28 and ones I've had since doesn’t budge it off 1.
How utterly pointless!

They should replace the thanks button with an ejector button, that would serve a better purpose!

I'm not the first or only one to ask, so it still begs the question what is the point of them anymore?
