DNO Jointers.

Watched a couple of lads from CE do a live c/o of a 90mm² 4-core u/g street feed cable over the weekend. ( It was opposite my house and I was providing the cuppa's :D ) The guys told me that most of the remaining houses in the street were off the same ( yellow ) phase and they were expecting fireworks once they jointed that phase in. The phrase they used was "It was a bit fruity when we cut it" :D

They weren't wrong  the resultant bang and sparks were amazing, also it buggered the first connector up that the lad was using coz I think it even caught him by surprise and he didn't bang the cable into the clamp firmly enough. ( His explanation not mine btw ).

Anyway, I can see why the lads use full face-masks and heavy-duty overalls when they're doing this sort of work

Was interesting to say the least. :D

Surely excellent for the wellbeing of the electrical equipment belonging to the consumers on that phase, too

Reality is a pain though, after 38 years in the industry I have never heard of a claim raised in these circumstances!

I didn't even realise that the DNO would entertain any claims for equipment damaged due to instability and faults on the network?

Well, the lads did knock on every house before they cut the cable to explain what was going to happen and asked people to turn off all the electrical gear in their houses apart from maybe one light so they would know when the mains was connected again.

Obviously no-one took any notice

They never do.

Some years ago we asked a group to not use heavy use appliances (tumble dryers, automatic washing machines etc.)whilst we maintained supply via a generator, some hope it lasted 30 mins before it shut down on overload!
