I think my laptop is dead

its only 2 years old however my laptop keeps freezing. It said it was dumping memory whilst playing football manager, And then froze a couple of times and i had to let the battery run out and restart. Now after about 5 mins of using the internet and with nothing else running, it starts making a squeaking sound and the just freezes!

Its an hp pavillion and its struggling now as it only has 256mb ram, 40gb hd and a 800hz processor

Is the fan on the processor running (quite often on demand with laptops)? You should be able to turn the machine off without having to wait for the battery to run down, if you press and hold the power button for a few seconds this may do it.

Firstly, 256mb of ram is not really enough to be doing any sort of gaming with I would look at your upgrade options to try and get a little bit more performance out of it.

My next concern is the squeaking sound. Does it sound like its coming from a part in the laptop or is it comes out of the speakers as audio?

it then began to say that it couldnt find a media cable. I took hd out and dusted it off a bit and it has started working again, but for how long i dont know?

Im looking at buying a new laptop for under £400. Any advice? i have seen a deal on dabs for a hp pavillion for £399 with a spare battery.

Also are mesh any good?
