I am a nurse. I know nothing about electrics.

I would love to be able to start off doing some simple wiring around the house and at some point wire up my garden shed.

Courses are VERY expensive.

Any good ideas to get me started?

Any friendly electricians in the Stroud/Gloucester area who would let me tag along if I made all the tea?

Thanks, Steve.

The WIKI is a good place to start with understanding how to wire switches ,ceiling roses etc

I would let you tag along if I could but I'm afraid I can't. What I will say is although the theory behind basic DIY work is hardly brain surgery there is still a lot to learn before you can start designing circuits and/or carrying out external wiring. These also fall under building regulation notifications where if you do decide to DIY you will have to be competant to show you've complied with electrical safety requirements.

Does Stroud college have any evening courses? They used to have an entry level (part time-evening) electrical course (city & guilds) for around £250.
Or maybe that was Gloucester college?

Have you done any self-study?
Are you familiar with ohms law?
Basic circuits? Series/Parallel etc?
Have you done any DIY electrics at home?

I take on board that you say you know nothing about electrics but I bet you have some knowledge?

I didn't know it was back online - it had been gone for years.

I'll update my links.
