We have an Icos HE24, fitted 4 years ago in the airing cupboard. The condensate drain was tee'd into the bath outflow (in the bathroom next to the airing cupboard) via a trap. Everything worked perfectly.
Recently we had the bathroom replaced. The condensate drain is still tee'd into the bath outflow, but the drain pipe is about 18 inches longer, because the bath outflow is in a different position.
During the building works, a rad was also replaced, and Sentinel X100 inhibitor was added to the system.
Since then, whenever the boiler is firing, there is a metallic "boiler room" smell in the airing cupboard. There was never any trace of a smell previously.
We called in the person who originally installed the boiler. He said that the smell was almost certainly warm inhibitor, possibly due to spillage on the outside of the flow and return pipes when the boiler was vented. I have scrubbed the pipes with caustic soda, but the smell still remains.
There are no signs of any water leakage anywhere.
The boiler continues to operate as normal, and there has never been any indication of condensate pipe blockage.
We can't use the airing cupboard as an airing cupboard any more (the clothes get impregnated with the smell), and I am at a loss as to what to do next.
Ideas anyone please!
