I posted a few months back asking about installing hive into an ideal logic BS1 30 boiler. This is the thread

As far as I could gather a fused spur powers the boiler, a wireless thermostat receiver and also a programmer (installed directly downstairs in the kitchen). I ended up returning hive to Screwfix after reading about ideals own halo system and others that use open therm.

It's getting to that time of year where I need to start thinking about getting something fitted for winter coming and have noticed tado is half price at the moment. I would be getting a professional to install it all. I'm just wondering if people could tell me what starter kit linked would be fine for what I need or are they both the same.

There's only one zone in my house so only one thermostat and would rather the programmer in the kitchen was moved. I don't know any local gas engineers so I would only be going by Google reviews and don't want to pick one who tries to bamboozle me, turn it into a big job and charge a fortune.

Hope it all makes sense, cheers.

It's all very straightforward, the wireless receiver sits next to the boiler and it then receives power from the same power supply that the boiler uses. It then connects to the boilers OT connections.

Either or would work. Would need to see what the modulation specific model adds over the one without though would presume it has more smart boiler controls

The programmable stat can go wherever it's needed, within certain distances of course.

All this needs the cover off the boiler though and that boiler has a room sealed case, so should really have a qualified GSR in to do the work.

Thanks for the reply. I definitely wouldn't be fitting it myself. Might have gave it at go if the current wiring wasn't so unique . I take it for all the extra benefits the more expensive model gives it's not worth twice the price.
