Hi,

The flue fan on my ideal classic boiler seems to be running noisily at the moment, I suspect that the bearings are on their way out.

Is replacing the fan something I can do myself, I am an aircraft engineer by trade, but as such not a qualified gas safe engineer.

Before anyone jumps all over me, I'm only asking the question. I don't intend to do the work if you qualified people say not to.

Thoughts?

You are no more Qualified to replace the fan on a Gas Boiler than I am to repair an Aircraft!!

Sorry job for an RGI because there are mandatory checks to be carried out on completion which require specialist equipment
(I expect your Industry is much the same!!) ;)

what would that specialist equipement be then boilerman?

What is your speciality on aircraft? Which models are you certified for?

Some of the fans on the Classics are very expensive! I have one of each and chose to find an old fan for mine rather than using up the new one so that I can keep that for a needy customer!

You need to be Gas safe registered to do this and i would let your chosen engineer supply the fan , I think from memory there are either 4 or 5 different fans if you purchase the wrong one it may not be returnable if you are supplied with what you asked for

Ok, will heed the good advice.

Was only thinking about doing it, but at the same time don't want to mess with it, lives could be at stake. Will get an RGI on the job, or wait till it fails and claim it on my domestic emergency insurance...

I work in aircraft construction, so am not limited to type.

Thank to all who relied though.

Andy.
