Penny drops - If you mean Ideal Responses, then the answer is a definite YES!
Haven't heard of it on any other model anywhere near as bad.

Response HE are total pants

I have had one Icos HE go on me, had a huge great hole in it after just 4 months of working

Corgiman ,
I must disagree, icos/ isar heat exchangers are very reliable, and failure is only generally to do with incorrect installation, generally water treatment, and if it was only 4 months old, the boiler would be covered by warrantyto cover manufacturing faults, provided it was installed correctly and water traetment was correct, (just the same as any other manufacturer)

what about the isars that leeched off the heat exchanger coating and blocked up the condensate trap causing lock outs and leaks....the new ones are pretty good but the early ones are abysmal.

Aw C'mon oily, we have to let them use us for a year or so for their product testing!
Like the man says, it is, unfortunately

[code:1](just the same as any other manufacturer)[/code:1]

Like I said, water treatment! ;)

seroiusly the trap must be cleaned properly at service, this will ,provided the exit pipework is clear ,not block between services,If the pipework goes into the ground in a "soakaway" they can become waterlogged and back up , causing some of the problems you have suggested
