Had a prob with Ideal response 120. Would light and when it did the Hot water only stayed hot for 30 secs. Rectifed some loose connection on PCB 41 and cleaned out the gas valve and everything was singing and dancing last night.

Just had the customer back on to say the boiler still isnt working right.

When you turn the heating on it doesnt light first time but will light after about 15 mins.

If you turn on the DHW only it will not light at all.

The only way to get DHW is when the heating is on.

I wish i had never went near this thing now.

Any ideas where i should be looking now. PCB 41?? Ignition Transformer??

PLEASE HELP!!!!

DHW flow paddle? A right s o d to get at

Like me, I bet you'll never go to one of these again

I always tell them to call Ideal ;)

If this was the problem then surely the DHW would never come on?? It comes on when the CH is working.

And yes not for love nor money will i go near one again.

I thought you meant the water only gets hot whilst ch is on, not that the dhw led only lights when ch is on.

Just to clarify,

If you try DHW only the boiler wont light.

When the CH is on and you turn on a hot water tap the DHW comes on as normal and heats the water.

Spoke to the guy again this evening and he now tells me that the pressure gauge is fluctuating from 0 to 2 bar and that air was hissing out of the Automatic Air Vent.

Is someone taking the pi$s or what!!!!!

I had this on a response, went through everything I thought. Changed the boiler in the end.

Best place for 'em, the scrap heap

Believe you me Dave this is exactly the way i am thinking now.

From reading other posts i need to check out the LP switch as well!!

Have told the owner to put the pressure up to 1.8 bar overnight to try and reset the switch and i will take it out and clean it when i get to it tommorrow.

What a joyful day i will be tommorrow. A Baxi Barcelona and this piece of crap. Is it any wonder i drink so much guinness!!!

hi, oring from flow restrictor could have fallen into flowswitch , this causes the symptom u described ie wild pressure & hissing . take out flow switch and catch anything that comes out (o ring is very small)

hw works when ch on is cos it has a 4 pipe hex , no plate hex.

check if dhw red led lights when tap is opened.

As I posted before the O ring is blocking the flow switch!!!!!

Sorry if this is a stupid question guys but is it the CH flowswith or the DHW flow sitch you are talking about? And im not exactly sure what you mean by the flow restrictor??

And what PCB is the DHW red led on??

Thanks again

So i think we have some progress guys,

Got back round there tonight and pulled off teh panels. Pressure was sitting at zero!!! Looked down in the bottom right corner and we had an orange glow. LP Switch!!! Boosted the pressure back up 1.6, no range glow, CH working fine, DHW working fine on its own.

Looked out the back, leaking PRV. Homeowner had boosted the pressure to over 2 bar and ran the boiler so she went to over pressure and activated the PRV.

So new PRV and LP switch going in and hopefuly that is whole sorry saga put to bed!!!

Make sure you re-charge the expv. These are always flat on respnses

Cheers for that!!! Didnt think of that actually!!

ALWAYS check the pre-charge on the expansion vessel if you have the opportunity (ie when the gauge is on zero). Most modern vessels are flat after only a couple of years.

And remember on some boiler vessels the schraider valves are near impossible to get to ...Glowworm Compacts (SD SD30's)..have to bolster a lump out the wall on the LHS), Ravenheat 820's...need room on LHS to remove cover plate, Potterton Lynx, Modern Alpha's if rear pipework and clip bracket is fitted, early Worcester CDI's (a pipe obscures the valve...have to disconnect the vessel and shift it along :D ), older Vaillant VCW's need long fingers, Vaillant sine18's need LHS clearance and bend the frame a tad...... so be prepared to plumb in an additional vessel on some.

Well you will all be glad to know the saga is over.

And yet again you were right. Pulled out the LP switch and the port was blocked solid with crap. Had to use a screw driver to dig the crap out to clear a hole to allow the water through.

And teh bloody PRV!!! Who designs a system that you ahve to take the pump out to change a PRV!!! Mental. Managed it without taking the pump out anyway but very awkward.

Still i suppose liek everything else it was learning curve. Shame i will never get to use it again as i wont be going back near one of these ever!!!

Thansk again people.
