iDect Cordless phone earpiece volume problem

The sound volume of the earpiece on this phone is very low- trying adjusting the sound setting has made no difference-yet the sound on the speakerphone is excellent and can be adjusted without any problem.Anybody got any ideas of what could be wrong with the earpiece sound and why it cant be adjusted-or come up with a solution to the problem.
