I'm having two bespoke window frames made (with 4 metal casements in each). The existing frames are painted white but I'm considering staining idigbo wood instead (to match front door).

Pros/cons of idigbo over other woods?

Pros/cons of staining over paint?

It is moderately durable, somewhat harder than most softwoods, depends what you are comparing against.

Much better than treated softwood, not as good as Oak or Iroko.

Should last you a lifetime if well made and properly looked after.

If that's a nice Victorian house, I would stick with white-painted in order to keep the look right.
