imersion heater

my brothers imersion heater keeps braking down he had a qualified electrician fit one a couple of months later it stopped working so i fitted a new one the same happened tried reset button it would work for a while so could there be something wrong with his wiring or could the heater be set to high it was set on manufacturers recommended setting

thanks for quick reply i replaced the whole element unscrewed it from the tank and wired it to the switch on the wall cost approx £22

Is the immersion the only heat source for hot water, or is there another source (heating boiler, solid fuel fire etc. etc)?

If another source is heating the water to a higher temperature than the immersion cutout operates at, it will pop the cutout every time the cylinder is heated, even if you are not using the immersion heater at the time.

In that case, the real culprit may be a faulty boiler 'stat or central heating cylinder 'stat.
