Set-painters do it by using a darker colour on the areas that would show damp. It is more convincing if they have an understanding of the shapes of damp patches resulting from the common causes.

Someone asked me to do it for them. I think the house used to have damp issues but my friend for it sorted. They want to make it look same. I have no idea if they're trying to reduce the price or not.
