Help please
I have the above set up for my hot water . The right hand picture shows a small plastic cup like thing. Going to an overflow .This has started to constantly drip ? Why is that and can it be stopped ?
Thanks in advance
Dave
It's a safety valve that releases water if the pressure inside your unvented hot water cylinder gets too high. Whilst the valve can fail, the usual cause, is the failure of the expansion vessel that is designed to take up the increased volume of water as it expands when heated. When the vessel fails there is nowhere for the increased volume of water to exit via the pipe you can see.
The expansion vessel will probably be connected to the cylinder via the flexible hose in the top left corner of your picture.
It's not a DIY job, and any plumber that attends to it is required to have a G3 certification. Unvented cylinders if wrongly connected can explode.
It's not a boiler, it's a cylinder, and it's not been correctly installed - there should be a minimum of 300mm of pipe below your tundish (plastic cup). I can't see if there are other installation faults...
It should be serviced annually by a G3 Registered Engineer, who will ensure that the safety devices are working correctly and the expansion vessel is correctly set, which should prevent the issue you're now experiencing
Thanks guys
Kinda understand now.
I have a guy coming to look at it on Monday. He is trusted plumber I have used in the past and I like him. I will make sure he has the G3 certificate.
