Immersion heater thermostat

Hi, My immersion heater has stopped working so I have bought a new thermostat, but it is a different design from the old one so i am not sure which way up to install it. In the info leaflet it says

"the live mains supply should be connected to one side of the thermostat. The short element link wire should be connected to the other side of the thermostat"

before i try an install it, please can someone clarify if it matters which side i connect each wire to?

its a heatrae RDT 7" combined thermostat and safety cut out

The stat can only be fitted one way and therefore the 'short wire' will only fit one side
