Hi. looking for some help.

I have replaced a plastic 10mm to 22mm connector that goes the immersion heater. The procedure I use is below.

1. turned stock cock off.
2. used a hose pipe to empty the cylinder connected to the drain tap on bottom of immersion heater.
3. replaced the leaking plastic 10mm to 22mm connector.
4. removed hose pipe and closed the drain valve.
5. turned on the mains water.

The problem i have now is I have no got water.. I get cold water from both the hot and cold taps. Do i have an air lock in the cylinder? if so how do i unlock the system?

Any help appreciated.
thanks

depends on what cylinder and system you've got? if its an indirect open vented system then quite simply:
if you've got mixer taps(must be mixing in the body of tap), then firmly(and i mean firmly) hold your hand over the outlet to block it (you may get a bit wet if you dont hold it hard enough), turn hot water on fully then once opened turn on the mains cold side for around 30- 60 seconds and that should be enough to blow any airlock out through vent, if its unsuccessful repeat for longer period.
if you have no mixer taps, you can simply attach washing machine hot hose to washing machine cold valve and turn both valves on(same times and process as with mixer taps)

thanks for that.. will that work even though i have the same pressure of water on both the hot and cold at the moment.. thanks

You need to be a bit more clear.

Have you got water coming out of the hot tap but it's just not hot or do you have no water at all coming out of the hot tap?

If you have water coming out of the hot tap and it's just not hot - did you remember to turn the immersion heater off when you drained the cylinder? If not, you have probably burned it out and will need a new one.

If you have no water coming out of the taps it sounds like you've either got an air lock or a blockage from the feed pipe coming from your header tank into the bottom of the cylinder.

In that case it's not an air lock.
Did you turn off your immersion heater before draining down the cylinder?
