Impact drivers

Do you get more or less 'cam out'? Is it critical that you are straight on to the screw? It's sometimes hard to know the angle when the head is buried.
Can you switch the impact off, and fit a drill bit with a hex end?

yes to the latter

No. But you can use the impact with a hex drill bit.

The thing is with a quality impact is that you very quickly warm to the brutality of it.

From a professional point of view, it is better to have the power and not need it than to need the power and not have it.

Joe, like all others, all i can say is give it a pop and see what you think.

How true! I sidestepped the issue of chewing up screw heads on s/steel hinges (royal PIA) by moving to a 3-speed impact (Makita 18 volt). Means that I can tame the beast when needs be

I like that, I think you could start a new religion on the basis of that, perhaps the wood god spoke to you

I went for the BTD145 - brushless motor impact jobbie - I reckon the BTP141s are just a tad too complicated WHEN they go wrong

I've found a way to turn my combi drill into an impact driver - just set the clutch on number three and off you go. Sounds like the real jobbie.

I have seen someone use hammer mode on a combi to drive in screws with amusing effect. :D
