Imprinted concrete patio colour change

Hi the mother in law needs a bit of advice. She had her front garden area concrete imprinted a few years ago in a beige colour, had it repainted grey a couple of years ago but it wearing off again...what product would do to recolour and seal please

You can get specialist concrete dye, paint or stain which would likely do the job. But I would recommend applying a sealant after to offer some longevity. This will help protect it from wear and UV damage.

Thanks.....Could you point me to a specific product or brand....seen a sealant with a tint but not sure if that would be sufficient

I wouldn't feel comfortable malign a recommendation as I have seen people use it before, but haven't ever seen the long term results. I would assume a local builders merchant would be able to point you in the right direction.

I would think that the acrylic concrete sealer ( usually Xylene based ) that would have been applied at the original fitting would prevent any product fully adhering to the concrete. Although not a professional I have maintained our own imprinted concrete drive for the last 20 years. Even going as far as importing a stripping product from Italy on one occasion to strip the concrete back to it's original pre-sealed state. That is a job I would not recommend anyone else to try as it was very expensive & time consuming, not to mention diabolically messy. It is however the only way I think you would get a concrete die to be absorbed into the concrete in order to change the colour. Personally I think it would be easier to strip off the grey & reseal then learn to live with the original colour.

If it was mine I would of had the grey done anyway but it's not. Probably would of been OK if she hadn't used grit salt on it in the winter also. I'm in contact with a company who sell sealant online so I'll see what they recommend. Personally can't see a problem with just cleaning the best I could and re sealing with a charcoal powder tint added. 3 coats I reckon would do it. But I'll let you know

Shot blasting is a thing to clean up concrete.
No idea if it would be suitable for your drive but could possibly get it back to it's pre-treated state for colouring and re-sealing.

Yes, that's an alternative method I explored with soda, turned out to be even more expensive & messy than stripper

As I said what ever you use I would think it will only stick to the surface of the original sealer & not adhere properly. I would also suspect that if you put 3 coats on it would be more likely to peel. I think you might be best asking the advice of a professional imprinted concrete installer for the bet course of action.

That's exactly what I'm doing pal... shot blasting? Really that's a step too far.
