I need to move a 240v dbl socket about 750mm horozontallly, can anyone recommend a compact in line junction box that doesn't need a huge hole in the wall? It's a spur, so only a single cable.

Thank you.

If the cable is not on the surface, is it already horizontal to the socket, or vertical?

Vertical, the single cable supply to this (1st floor) socket drops vertically down from the loft. I would like this socket moved over to the left, and to remain at the same height.

You already have a "huge" hole.

You may use any suitable kind of connector and cover with a blank plate.
You cannot fill the hole as it will remove the indication that there is a buried cable.

Looks like that wall is going to need some TLC anyway, so can you not run a new cable down the wall and avoid a join?

If you are going to have a junction box, as you can see from the Wiki article you must leave a blanking plate where the socket currently is, so as that will make it all accessible then a 3way bit of 30A connector strip inside the back box will do, but you could use Wago type connectors if you want.

Don't forget to earth the existing back box.

Do you know what direction the cable comes from in the loft?

If it comes from the left (ie there is slack), you could re-route it without having to go in the loft.

Another way be to forget the existing cable and disconnect from the loft.

And find a new supply from under the floorboards we can see.

Is there better access from the loft elsewhere? Could the cable drop down in a corner, and then under the floor? Or somewhere else where a socket could be placed?

I've been a complete muppet, there is a ring circuit going in later, some additional back boxes have already been let in to the walls. I just need to add this repositioned socket to the new ring and decommission the unwanted socket. I'll only have one working dbl socket in the room until the spark wires the ring in to a new fuse board but I can live with that.
Sorry about that.

New socket heights in existing building?
