In old Edwardian houses did they ever have concrete down in the living rooms?

One of the tradesman said that underneath the front living room which is a traditional wooden floor with floor joists and boards is concrete which I find difficult to understand as in the other living room downstairs there's only earth underneath and wondered if somehow he's made a mistake or for some reason there might be a concrete area sitting on it's own

I think the plumber only gave it an initial cursory look and as one of the boards is up I'll get a tool and check if it's solid or not. It might be for some reason there's just a patch of concrete type material there - it just strikes me as being odd

sometimes when people have a leak under the floor, they put concrete over it thinking that will cure the problem.

obviously it doesn't repair the leak, and the water will find its way out somewhere else

only now it is much harder to repair because you have to get through all the concrete first.

Have seen concrete laid in an underfloor void the entire area of a room [basically] and it was thought the concrete was installed to stop ground water ingress in that area of the property, this was a Georgian property.
