Back in the days when £100 a year was good pay...
Two clerks are appointed to an office:-

Smith to be paid yearly starting at £105 rising by £10 each year.

Jones to be paid half yearly starting at £50 and rising £5 at each half year.
which clerk has made the best bargain .. if any?
:?:

Edited Sorry guys £105 was the Smith starter - JD

Jones has a slight advantage, because his salary (expressed in annual terms) rises to £105 after six months while his colleague is still on £100.
After twelve months they are both on £110.

After 18 months Jones is on £115 while his colleague is still on £110.

So Jones earns an average of £5 for 6 months extra every year. So his average annual earnings are £2.50 higher than Smith's. Or rather, £2/10/00

empip

I will humour you here .. or is it a joke ...?????

what dodgy is the premise .....ok

after today , ..lol,

Oi!

In your problem you say Smith starts at £100 p.a.

But in your table you show him earning £105 in year 1!!
