Just had a plasterer in to do a new extension, he has left the walls with join lines where he sectioned off the wall where he then plastered in sections. I have complained saying the joins are rough and that i will see them when decorated. They are all bumpy and not even level on each section when straight edge against them, he has said thats an issue for the decorator to sort out, is he right is this acceptable or should I get it re done?

why did he section off the walls?

a pro plasterer can do a whole wall in one.

usually plastering top coat is done in about 6-7 stages: put plaster on, flatten with spatula or trowel, put on second coat, flatten, then trowel again to further flatten, then wet trowel to polish

maybe you mean he used plasterboard then skimmed?

OP,
Besides the obvious bads - the drywall piece thats hung above the opening & exactly spanning the header is not the correct way to drywall an opening.
That piece could possibly crack after a few months - if it was a timber framed structure then the joins would most definitely crack.
There are much simpler, & easier, crack-proof ways to drywall an opening.

Are you saying that the above patch-in is how you saw your drywall hung or did you DIY hang the drywall?

After attending a US Gypsum drywall course I noticed & understood that what I had just been taught explained the cracks I had previously noticed.

I'm not a plasterer by any stretch of the imagination, but when I plastered a bedroom wall about 30 years ago, I made a better job than this.
Hope you haven't paid him.

So you noticed cracks before the course ? Why didn't you stay in the US and give them the benefit of your universe of knowledge ?
