Hi all,

As far as I know at present the roof sits on the walls thus...

My understanding is that I build the outer brick wall over the patio doors (2.1M) to a height of 2.4M and the inner skin of block is 1 block higher as shown. Then it's rafters attached to wall plate on inner skin up to apex.

My question is...

can I use my own height of inner and outer block and brick to alter how high the wall plate sits on the inner skin and therefore alter the pitch of the roof ??

I understand that I have to be able to clear the lintel over the patio door, but does it matter how close the rafter pass it??

Many thanks,

Graham

Yes you can.

You could even birds-mouth or notch around the lintel in order to pinch a bit more pitch.

The outer masonry course need only be high enough for the soffit board to sit upon.

is there a minimum that the rafter can be notched for the bird's mouth ?? My rafters are 150 x 50 mm I think..

ie can I not notch more than half way due to loss of strength, on the wall plate section??
