Independent thoughts on a good water softener

Dear All,

I am considering fitting a water softener in my property. The house is a small 3 bedroom house that is fit for around 3-4 people.

It will be used to soften an upstairs high performance shower, basin and toilet. It may also be used to soften the downstairs dishwasher and washing machine. This all depends on plumbing options etc

I would appreciate links on water softener reviews. I have heard that Monarch are a good brand.
