Indesit IWDC 6125

Hi,
The machine (Indesit IWDC 6125)was doing a light wash when there was a loud 'pop' and the mcb in the consumer unit tripped. I have disconnected the leads to the washer heater and tested the heater with a meter. There is a reading when I connect the meter leads to live and neutral. there is NO reading when I connect the meter leads to live and earth, or neutral and earth. I would welcome a solution please.
